Xi Jinping meets with President-elect of Indonesia



Chinese President Xi Jinping met with the President-elect of the Republic of Indonesia and the general chairman of the Great Indonesia Movement Party, Prabowo Subianto, who is visiting China, in Beijing on Monday (1).


Xi Jinping congratulated Prabowo on being elected President of Indonesia and asked him to convey sincere greetings and best wishes to the still incumbent President Joko Widodo. The Chinese President recalled that in the last decade, Sino-Indonesian relations have made rapid and comprehensive progress with fruitful results under the joint guidance of the two heads of state. The Jakarta-Bandung high-speed railway has become a symbol of high-quality cooperation between China and Indonesia. The bilateral relationship has entered a new phase of building a community with a shared future.


The Chinese President emphasized that China views its relationship with Indonesia from a strategic and long-term perspective. Additionally, China aims to deepen strategic cooperation in all aspects and establish a China-Indonesia community with a shared future with regional and global influence, in order to benefit both peoples and contribute to the peace, stability, and prosperity of the region and the rest of the world.


Xi Jinping reiterated that the successes of Sino-Indonesian relations are the result of strategic self-determination, mutual trust and assistance, cooperation for mutual benefit, and the defense of impartiality and justice. China and Indonesia, two large developing countries and representatives of emerging economies, should continue to work in solidarity and mutual benefit to become a model of common development and pioneers of South-South cooperation.


In turn, Prabowo conveyed the sincere greetings of current President Joko Widodo to the Chinese leader and expressed his satisfaction in choosing China as the destination for his first international trip after being elected President of Indonesia.


Prabowo acknowledged that China is a great country with significant influence and has always developed its relationship with Indonesia based on mutual respect and equal treatment, adding that he admires the great achievements of the Chinese people under the leadership of President Xi Jinping and wants to learn from the experiences of the Communist Party of China and deepen the exchange of governance experiences.
