The D. Pedro V Theater will host a commemorative concert on April 13th for the April 25th, 1974, Portuguese revolution, whose 50th anniversary is celebrated this year. "Zeca," the name of the show promoted by "Somos! - Association for Communication in the Portuguese Language" (Somos - ACLP), brings together guitarist Pedro Jóia and percussionist José Salgueiro on stage, two top instrumentalists in the Portuguese music scene.

According to a statement from "Somos!," "Zeca" aims to go "beyond the strength of Zeca Afonso's repertoire, with reinterpretations of instrumental versions of some of the best Portuguese music produced in the last half-century."

Musician José Afonso, known in Portuguese music history as Zeca Afonso, is considered "one of the unavoidable figures in the artistic history and the Portuguese revolutionary process." The event's organization indicates that the show will resonate with "a large part of his work," notably the album "Zeca," where Pedro Jóia transformed songs by the interventionist musician into instrumental versions.

The concert repertoire will also include performances of songs by other Portuguese musicians, including Carlos Paredes, composer and master of the Portuguese guitar, as well as some original compositions by Pedro Jóia, recorded on eight albums over the past twenty-five years of his career.

Also noteworthy is the presence of musician Fang Teng from the Macau Chinese Orchestra. The guest musician will perform emblematic works of Portuguese music, "strengthening the ties that have united our peoples for centuries and creating a moment of perfect musical and cultural connection."

A DISC ON STAGE

Released in May 2020, "Zeca" was very successful in the sales charts in Portugal and has already toured several stages, both inside and outside the country, now reaching Macau. The album awakens "a wide range of emotions only with the poetic language of the instruments on stage and the evocation of reminiscences and intimate reflections," points out "Somos!".

"Somos!" also describes that Fang Teng "will punctuate the notes of Portuguese music with the dramatic and melancholic capacity of the erhu, a traditional Chinese instrument with two strings played with a bow. A detail that promises to enchant and move the audience." The show starts at 9 p.m. and tickets cost 200 patacas.

Pedro Jóia studied classical guitar at the National Conservatory, as well as flamenco guitar. In 2008, he received the Carlos Paredes Prize with the album "À Espera de Armandinho" and received the same distinction in 2020 with "Zeca."

In the case of José Salgueiro, his musical career has been marked by drums and percussion. He studied at the Academy of Amateurs of Music, National Conservatory, Hot Clube de Portugal, and at the Taller de Músics in Barcelona. His musical activity has included concerts, recording albums, and television shows with various national artists. In 2017, he released his first solo work, entitled "Transporte Colectivo."

Fang Teng completed his studies at the Macau Conservatory in 2015 and was admitted to the Central Conservatory of Music. He was an erhu teacher at the Continuing Education School of the Central Conservatory of Music, a guest musician of the Macau Chinese Orchestra, and currently teaches this traditional instrument at the Hou Kong Secondary School in Macau.
